An Act to repeal the Restricted Residence Act 1933.

ENACTED by the Parliament of Malaysia as follows:

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Restricted Residence (Repeal) Act 2011.

2. Repeal of Act and saving

(1) The Restricted Residence Act 1933 [Act 377] is repealed.

(2) The repeal of the Restricted Residence Act 1933 shall not affect any order issued or made, or action or proceedings taken, under the repealed Act prior to the date of coming into operation of this Act.

3. Order to cease to have effect, etc.

Notwithstanding subsection 2(2), on the date of coming into operation of this Act, any order issued or made under the repealed Act which is still in force on the date of coming into operation of this Act shall cease to have effect and any pending action or proceedings under the repealed Act shall be discontinued.

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

This Bill seeks to repeal the Restricted Residence Act 1933 ("Act 377").

2. Clause 1 contains the short title of the proposed Act.

3. Clause 2 seeks to repeal Act 377 as it is outdated and has since outlived its purpose and to provide for the saving of prior orders and action or proceedings.

4. Clause 3 seeks to provide for the lapsing of orders, and the discontinuance of action and proceedings, under the repealed Act on the coming into operation of the proposed Act.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

This Bill will not involve the Government in any extra financial expenditure.
