"LAPORAN SYARIAH 2008" chronicles together some 30 Islamic Law cases thth touch on a myriad of significant contemporary Islamic Law issues within the subject indexes of Civil Procedure, Constitutional Law,.Contract, Divorce, Evidence, Guardianship, Jurisdiction. Maintenance, Matrimonial, Property, Marriage, Statutory Interpretation, Succession and Wakaf. Also showcases by way of choice are two judgments are Federal Court of Malaysia. The editors have seen it fit to incorporate these judgments on account of their inherent merits, in particular for attempting to make jurisdictional boundaries between Syariah and Civil Courts more decipherable constitutionally, and putting to rest many custodial issues that have plagued non-Muslim spouses when one embraces Islam.

With the State Legislature having since passed an increasing number of uniformed Islamic Law legislation in their respective jurisdiction, it seems inevitable that the syariah courts, and judges, are destined to play a more defining role in the legal landscape of the country. Doubtless, all this must entail new challenges to the syariah practitioners, not least the need for him to complement and enhance his research tools with appropriate legal literature. The MCLJ intimately shares this sentiment and hence deems it expedient to introduce the 5th release of its Syariah Reports Series, The Laporan Syariah 2008

Distinctive Features:

"LAPORAN SYARIAH 2008" provides the syariah judges, syariah practioners, academicia, law students, the legal fraternity and the lay community in general with a useful research tool on the application of Islamic Law in Malaysia. Equally significant is the fact that the judgments, though written in Bahasa Malysia and interfused with Arabic passages naturally, are reported in Bahasa Malysia and English. The purport is of course to benefit those who feel less than oriented to decipher the Bahasa Malysia texts of the judgments. Additionally, to facilitate fast reference, line referencing is provided in respect of the ratio of the judgments.
