An Act to amend the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009.

1. Short title and commencement

(1) This Act may be cited as the Judicial Appointments Commission (Amendment) Act 2010.

(2) This Act comes into operation on a date to be appointed by the Prime Minister by notification in the Gazette.

2. Amendment of section 3

The Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009 [Act 695] is amended in section 3 in the definition of "judges of the superior courts", by inserting after the word "means" the words "judicial commissioners,".

EXPLANATORY STATEMENT

This Bill seeks to amend the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009 ["Act 695"].

2. Clause 1 contains the short title and the power of the Prime Minister to appoint the commencement date of the proposed Act.

3. Clause 2 seeks to amend the definition of "judges of the superior courts" in section 3 of Act 695 to include judicial commissioners within the scope of Act 695.

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

This Bill will not involve the Government in any extra financial expenditure.
